The company, which already has its first orders, will carry out the the production campaign in the last quarter of 2024 with the manufacture of 2,000 tons of this tube.
This version of its products, called O-Next®, will be presented at the Tube trade fair, which will be held from April 15 to 19 in Düsseldorf. Tubos Reunidos’ commitment to the decarbonization of the industry will be reflected with the introduction of this kind of new tube to the market. In addition, this range of products responds to the growing demand for this type of product by the market.
According to Carlos López de las Heras, CEO of Tubos Reunidos, “we are immersed in a process of continuous improvement that involves the entire organization to make our processes and products more sustainable. With these low-emission tubes we demonstrate that it is possible to reduce the carbon footprint of our products, and, at the same time, we want to be a lever in the decarbonization of the industry, achieving a green value chain for companies. We must offer products that are responsible for the future of the planet, and from our capabilities, support climate neutrality.”
Innovation, sustainability, and industrial capacity
This project is the result of the industrial and investment commitment that Tubos Reunidos has carried out within the company’s 2021-2026 Strategic Plan, as well as the sustainability measures it has carried out to advance its decarbonization objectives from the point of view of energy efficiency, environmental footprint reduction and circularity. Thus, it is worth highlighting the reunification of the two steel mills of Tubos Reunidos, which has made it possible to group the upstream phase of the steel pipe manufacturing process in a single new unit, with relevant improvement efficiencies in terms of decarbonization.
Tubos Reunidos is already a low-emission manufacturer in the sector because its production technology is based on electric arc furnace. To develop the first zero- emission seamless tube and pipe, in addition to the unification of its steel mills, several initiatives have been implemented, including the use of recycled raw materials; efficiency improvements in the manufacturing process; and the installation of more than 30,000 solar panels on the roofs of its mills, which will make Tubos Reunidos the manufacturing company with the largest installed capacity on the roof for self-consumption among the companies in the north of the Iberian Peninsula.
