Bahri is the owner and developer of three (3) Desalination barges, each capable of producing 50.000 m3/d of high-purity water for industrial or potable use. The overall process consists of intake pumping, i-UF pretreatment and double pass reverse osmosis treatment.

Being a mobile offshore application, there are specific challenges to the plant and its components, being compactness and adaptability to different raw water qualities, two of the most important ones. For this reason, Ultrafiltration (UF) was selected as the pretreatment technology on this plant. In addition, Fluytec’s i-UF technology was selected due to its lowest footprint and its higher pressure rating, which allowed for a direct coupling between the intake pumps and the SWRO inlet.

Each barge counts with nine (9) i-UF trains, each made up of three (3) vessels. Each vessel is rated to 10 bar pressure under ASME-X and houses one integrated self-cleaning filter and 60 UF membranes.

Fluytec has not only supplied the i-UF vessels for these barges but has also worked closely with Bahri and other parties during the commissioning of Barge 1. Lessons learnt and recommendations of this commissioning were applied on Barge 02, leading to a fast and smooth commissioning of Barge 02. This Barge is currently producing the design desalinated flow and the i-UF system is performing within the design conditions, both in terms of production and water quality.
